What is Dawn of War 4?

Dawn of War IV is the next real-time strategy game in the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series, made by KING Art Games (Iron Harvest) and published by Deep Silver. It goes back to the series' roots: you build a base, capture and hold resource points, upgrade squads and fight large battles, with close-up “sync kill” melee animations now run by a system the developer calls the Combat Director. The story is set on Kronus, years after Dark Crusade, and is co-written by Black Library author John French.

The four factions

You command the Space Marines (both the Blood Ravens and the Dark Angels), the Orks, the Necrons and, for the first time in the series, the Adeptus Mechanicus. Each has its own campaign, two or more Commanders and a mechanic of its own, from the Ork Waaagh! to the Necron Power Matrix. Our Dawn of War 4 factions comparison shows how each plays and how to beat it.

Which edition, and when you can play

The Standard Edition unlocks on December 3, 2026. The Commander Edition starts three days earlier, on November 30, 2026, and adds the two story DLCs and the soundtrack. The Commander vs Standard Edition guide lists everything in each and picks one for you; the Dawn of War 4 release date countdown shows the days left and adds the unlock hour once it is announced.

After launch: Year 1

Free updates for everyone bring Crusade Mode and Map Pack I; Lord Ahmnok (Last Stand and Crusade) and Map Pack II; Mission Editor and Map Pack III; Guzcutta (Last Stand and Crusade) and Map Pack IV. Two paid DLCs follow: the Blood Ravens Story Prologue and Aftermath, which adds a new faction. The Dawn of War 4 FAQ covers co-op, multiplayer, Last Stand and Crusade mode, and the system requirements page tracks the PC specs, which Steam has not published yet.

What we are building

Before launch, everything here comes from the official website and the developer's posts. From November 30, 2026 we add what players need in matches: a unit database with costs and counters, opening build orders and a tier list, each checked against two different players' games and dated with the game version.

Checked against the official posts on October 22, 2026. Until we have checked a page in the game itself, it follows the developer's own description; we update it as details are confirmed in play.
